Bluefield Beckley Oak Hill, WV, November 3, 2026 — The WOAY Election Center has released the official results for the 2026 West Virginia Local General Elections, highlighting a notable trend across several counties. The election outcomes, encompassing returns from Fayette, Greenbrier, McDowell, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Raleigh, Summers, and Wyoming counties, indicate a substantial number of local offices that were filled without contest.

The data compiled by the WOAY Election Center shows that many positions at the local government level did not draw multiple candidates, resulting in individuals being elected by default. This pattern was observed across a wide geographic area within the state.

The specific number of uncontested races and the exact local offices affected were not detailed in the provided summary. Similarly, information regarding contested races, the candidates involved, or the vote counts for any positions was not made available in the initial reporting.

Election officials typically finalize results after votes are cast and counted. In cases where only one candidate files for a particular office, or if all other candidates withdraw, the race is considered uncontested. This can lead to the candidate being declared the winner without a public vote being necessary on election day for that specific role.

The summary does not provide further details on the implications of these uncontested races, such as potential impacts on local governance, voter engagement, or future election cycles. The scope of the reporting focused solely on the identification of a significant portion of local races being uncontested across the specified West Virginia counties.
