Mesirow announces Shawn Beber as Chief Executive Officer

PR Newswire

CHICAGO, Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Mesirow, a leading independent, employee-owned financial services firm, announced today that Shawn Beber will serve as the firm’s next Chief Executive Officer. After an extensive search, Mesirow’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to appoint Beber to the role.

Shawn Beber

Beber joins Mesirow after more than two decades at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) where he held several senior leadership roles across businesses as well as functional areas, including US Commercial Banking & Wealth Management, Risk Management, Legal and Strategy & Corporate Development. Most recently, he served as President & CEO of CIBC Bank USA where he successfully led the bank through a period of economic and market uncertainty. Beber played a crucial role in CIBC’s successful expansion in the US, including the $5 billion acquisition of The Private Bank in 2017, which was a foundational transaction for CIBC’s growing US presence.

“Shawn has proven to be an extraordinary leader with the experience, judgment and ability to bring people together to serve clients and grow businesses,” said Richard S. Price, who will continue serving as Executive Chairman, focused on organizational strategy and civic and community engagement. “He understands that lasting success comes from investing in our people, and I am confident that he will lead Mesirow with the same dedication that has defined our success.”

“Mesirow has built an exceptional firm grounded in its entrepreneurial spirit and a deep commitment to its clients,” Beber said. “These qualities are a clear reflection of the strength of Mesirow’s people and the culture that has been built over generations, and I am honored to join Mesirow to continue building on the firm’s momentum and delivering meaningful value to the clients and communities we serve.”

In addition to his financial expertise, Beber brings a history of civic engagement and community investment to the role, reflecting his leadership philosophy that is grounded in service and relationship-building. Beber currently serves on the Northwestern Memorial Foundation Board, the Board of Trustees at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center and the Board of Directors at the Executives’ Club of Chicago. He is also an active member of the Commercial Club of Chicago.

“With a strong foundation and clear path forward, Mesirow is well-positioned for continued growth and success,” Price said. “As CEO, Shawn will bring a fresh perspective to the firm’s leadership team while preserving the long-term focus and principles that have guided Mesirow throughout its 90-year history.”

With $410.3 billion in assets under supervision* as of September 30, 2026, Mesirow continues to expand its scale, geographic reach and breadth of specialized capabilities. The firm remains focused on building for the future through strategic acquisitions, organic growth and continued investment in the expertise and solutions clients need.

*As of 9.30.26 unless otherwise noted. | 1. “Assets under supervision” includes regulatory assets under management; assets under advisement; and non-securities currency assets under management. For these purposes: (1) regulatory assets under management (“RAUM”) is calculated in accordance with Instruction 5A of Form ADV and includes all assets of securities portfolios (both discretionary and non-discretionary). (2) Some assets under advisement (“AUA”) are on a 45-to-90-day lag due to time needed to confirm away assets. (3) Currency assets under management includes AUM associated with (i) active and passive currency risk management products $249.45 billion, (ii) non-fx overlay strategies such as equitization and beta overlays $1.14 billion, and (iii) alpha strategies $1.84 billion. In all such cases, AUM is calculated based on notional value of currency investments. Additionally, AUM for alpha strategies is adjusted because clients can select a volatility target (generally between 2% and 12% annualized), which is normalized to 2% in order to create a consistent depiction of alpha strategy AUM. This results in a “scaled” AUM, which is higher than the actual aggregate notional value of all alpha strategy portfolios if clients have selected a volatility target higher than 2%. As of 9.30.2026, the “unscaled” AUM for alpha strategies was $431.31 million.
