The latest New Frontiers Series set to air forth quarter 2026 on Bloomberg Television: Planet TV Studios proudly serves as the exclusive sponsor of the New Frontiers series.
BLACK HILLS, SD, UNITED STATES, October 12, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Planet TV Studios announced that Red Cloud Renewable, a Native-led nonprofit based on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, will participate in an upcoming New Frontiers television segment focused on climate solutions, renewable energy workforce development and Tribal energy sovereignty. The program is planned for November 2026 during Native American Heritage Month, with final broadcast placement and scheduling subject to completion of production and media arrangements.
The segment will tell a hybrid story that connects Lakota history with the modern work taking place at Red Cloud Renewable. At the center is Chief Henry Red Cloud, a fifth-generation direct descendant of historic Oglala Lakota leader Mahpiya Luta, known to history as Chief Red Cloud, and John Red Cloud, a sixth-generation direct-lineal descendant who serves as Red Cloud Renewable’s Director of Operations.
The historical portion of the production will place Chief Red Cloud within the larger nineteenth-century Lakota story while carefully distinguishing the paths of other major leaders, including Hunkpapa Lakota leader Sitting Bull and Oglala Lakota leader Crazy Horse. Chief Red Cloud’s resistance to U.S. forts along the Bozeman Trail helped force negotiations that produced the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty, while Sitting Bull rejected participation in those treaty negotiations.
Their histories are distinct, but together they provide context for a broader story of homeland, culture, resilience and self-determination that continues to shape Native communities today. Red Cloud Renewable brings that idea of self-determination into the energy sector through culturally relevant education
and hands-on training. The organization provides instruction in solar installation, weatherization and energy efficiency while incorporating building-science principles that help trainees understand how homes perform and why those principles matter when designing and installing solar systems.
The roots of that effort reach to the early 2000s, when Chief Henry Red Cloud began building solar air furnaces as a practical response to the cost of keeping homes warm through severe South Dakota winters. That work grew through Lakota Solar Enterprises and later Red Cloud Renewable, which became a nonprofit in 2017. The organization reports that it has helped install more than 1,200 solar furnaces in Native homes and has trained more than 1,100 Indigenous students in renewable energy and related workforce skills.
The New Frontiers production will examine how Red Cloud Renewable combines technical education with real-world installation experience. Its Solar Warrior Workforce Academy is designed for Tribal governments, workforce organizations and other partners seeking to develop a skilled local solar workforce. Current program materials describe approximately 80 hours of online coursework followed by two weeks of residential, hands-on training at the Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center on Pine Ridge.
Another focus will be the relationship between energy, housing and resilience. On Pine Ridge, winter weather, housing conditions and energy costs can turn efficiency into an immediate quality-of-life issue. Red Cloud Renewable pairs renewable-energy work with weatherization and home-efficiency projects. In its 2025 impact report, the organization said its all-Native weatherization crew completed deep energy retrofits on 30 homes for low-income enrolled Oglala Lakota tribal members, affecting 104 people.
The production will also examine BRIDGE, Bridging Renewable Industry Divides in Gender Equality, a workforce initiative designed to expand solar career pathways for Native American women. The U.S. Department of Energy lists a $1.5 million award to Red Cloud Renewable for an apprenticeship-readiness project focused on recruitment, training and career placement for Native women in the solar workforce.
Red Cloud Renewable enters the production with fresh national recognition. In September 2026, the organization received the 2026 Power for All Award from the Electric Innovation Initiative during Climate Week NYC. The award recognized work expanding access to electrification and related economic opportunity while supporting workforce development and Tribal energy sovereignty. The recognition followed the 2025 Dr. Espanola Jackson Energy Justice Award presented to Chief Henry Red Cloud for his clean-energy leadership.
For New Frontiers, that combination of history and current action creates the central narrative. The story is not simply about solar panels. It is about who is trained to install them, who has the knowledge to maintain them, who benefits from the energy they produce and how Native communities can build local capacity around essential infrastructure. Production is moving quickly, with filming expected to begin in the coming days. The final segment is expected to include interviews with Red Cloud Renewable leadership, hands-on workforce training, solar installation footage, archival historical material and client-supplied footage from the organization’s 2026 award recognition.
