Pivot Bio, one of the world’s leading agtech companies, announced today that it has significantly expanded production and availability of Pivot Bio RETURN® for winter wheat this fall in response to strong farmer demand, bringing the product to more growers and more acres across U.S. wheat country.

Pivot Bio provides farmers with a weatherproof source of nitrogen delivered daily at the root, helping crops access nitrogen when they need it while helping growers get more from their conventional nitrogen applications. Its proprietary nitrogen-fixing technology uses gene-edited microbes applied at planting that colonize the roots and convert atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-available form throughout the crop’s early growth.

Building on two successful seasons in winter wheat, Pivot Bio significantly increased RETURN production and availability this fall to serve more growers. RETURN provides U.S. wheat producers with a foundational nitrogen source as the crop establishes ahead of winter dormancy. That period is critical for winter wheat, which must build a strong stand and root system before winter, often under cool or wet conditions that can complicate nutrient availability. In field evaluations, RETURN increased early biomass above and below ground, produced more tillers with heads on average and resulted in more uniform tiller and head placement compared with untreated checks.

The more consistently we can support each plant in the fall, the more resilient the stand is going into winter and the more crop growers have to work with when it comes back in the spring. RETURN puts a reliable source of nitrogen in place early, giving growers more flexibility to shift more of their conventional nitrogen investment into later applications when the crop can use it more efficiently.”

The company has also introduced RETURN® Dry, expanding application options for wheat and other small grains. The dry formulation gives growers another way to integrate Pivot Bio nitrogen alongside RETURN On-Seed and was developed to fit existing small-grain production systems.
