Discussions at the Indonesia Solar Investment Forum 2026: From Ambition to Investable Scale highlighted the next challenge: translating that ambition into projects supported by clear procurement schedules, workable commercial arrangements and coordinated infrastructure development.

Held at the Indonesian Consulate General in New York, the forum brought together perspectives from industry, corporate renewable electricity buyers, financial institutions and academia to examine how Indonesia could mobilize the funding and expertise needed to deliver solar at scale.

Laura Thomas, RE100 Policy Manager at Climate Group, welcomed Indonesia’s ambition while raising the practical question of how implementation could move quickly and enable wider participation. Speaking from RE100’s corporate perspective, she emphasized that the transition needed to extend beyond businesses and allow the rest of society to participate.

“We have so many corporations that want to invest in the energy transition, they know how to, because they’ve done it globally. So how can we translate those solutions into solutions that work for the Indonesian market? There are already so many solutions in place and so much knowledge that just can be tapped into and capitalised on to get moving quickly as well,” Thomas said.

Her remarks highlighted the opportunity to connect Indonesia’s solar program with companies that bring both investment interest and practical experience in renewable electricity procurement. Adapting that experience to Indonesia’s market requires policies and commercial structures that give buyers, developers and financiers a clear route to participate.

During the session, AESI explained the established four dedicated task forces they organize covering independent power producer development, rooftop solar, the 100 GWp program, and workforce development. Working with government and industry stakeholders, these groups support the policy, project preparation, and workforce needs required to translate Indonesia’s solar ambition into implementation.

Addressing the corporate demand highlighted by RE100, Mada Ayu Habsari, Chairwoman of AESI, noted that the association is actively breaking down barriers for commercial and industrial users.

“The appetite from industries, especially for rooftop solar, is very high. To meet this demand and accelerate the 100 GWp target, AESI is helping to shape a new platform that provides easy access to renewable energy,” stated Mada. “By transforming the system into a single billing platform through PLN, we are unlocking access for commercial, industrial, and government buildings without tying them to complex multi-year commitments.
